Job Overview

 

Wilderness Baptist Church (WBC) is a devoted and loving congregation that is seeking a new Pastor who is a shepherd and a servant leader by nature. The Pastor’s primary gift, in addition to preaching will be loving people.

WBC is in Spotsylvania County Virginia, mid-way (30 minutes) between downtown Fredericksburg, and Culpeper, within commuting distance of Washington DC and Richmond. The area is home to the University of Mary Washington, many military/government agencies, as well as businesses. It is supported by two independent University hospital networks. The “Central Park” shopping area, located immediately off Interstate I-95, provides extensive opportunities for shopping and restaurants.  There is something for everyone nearby and it is also only several hours to the beach or the mountains.   

WBC is comprised of approximately 150 working, retired, suburban, and rural worshippers. Attendance is generally around 60 people who attend one of two services, each Sunday: an early worship Contemporary Service or a later morning Traditional Service.  The sermon is the same for each.

The Pastor shepherds the spiritual needs and direction of the church and works side by side with congregants, lay leaders, committees, and ministries in developing the plans and direction for the church.  Also ministers to the sick, shut-in, and bereaved and performs weddings, funerals, baptisms, etc.

In addition to possessing a gift for spreading God’s word, the applicant should demonstrate a successful history of working with Boards, Committees and Ministries to achieve results.   They should also be experienced in training and developing disciples and lay leaders within the church and must possess skills in planning, administration, and communication.

 

 

Qualifications

•    Evidences the qualities of 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9 

•    A graduate of an accredited Seminary with a minimum of 6 years of     

      Pastoral experience, preferably with some youth ministry experience. 

•    A plain-speaking communicator of the Word of God, with a heart for ministry.   

      Preaches with accuracy, clarity, conviction, and relevance.

•    A servant leader with a humble, and highly relational nature. 

•    A relationship builder with people of all ages and walks of life. 

•    Experience training, and empowering small teams of volunteers.

•    Community oriented and involved; works to expand church outreach. 

•    Works with church leaders to develop a plan which implements the church  

      vision.

•    Must be missions oriented and embrace the role of the Women’s Missionary    

      Union within the church.

•    Demonstrated ability overseeing a budget of at least $300k.

•    Musical talent is welcome but not essential
